Walk to Bergen Challenge

Sol-land lodge succeeded in walking from Kennewick to Bergen
in one year. We needed 4100 miles and walked about 4500!
Congratulations everyone! We will have a small
celebration at the October 2009 meeting.
Sol-land lodge has a "Walk to Bergen" challenge. In honor of district 2's 100th
anniversary in
2010 our challenge is to
walk, bike or swim as a group, the 4100 miles between Kennewick
and Bergen in
one year. The challenge starts August 19th, 2008.
So why not get a pedometer, grab a
Gangmerke walking log and start recording your mileage? Maybe this is
your opportunity to do that
little bit of exercise you've been planning to do. We will tally the
total miles in the lodge and move our marker at each meeting. Among the
benefits of finishing this challenge are: better health,
winning sports medals, and possibly even some publicity for our lodge.
Here are the rules for our Walk to Bergen challenge:
- You can use any activity that can be measured in mileage: walking, running, cycling, swimming, etc.
- If you choose to earn one of the sports medals at the same time—such as Gangmerke, Sykkelmerke or Idrettsmerke—the mileage counts for both. For instance, if you walk 2 miles in a day, you can put 2 miles on your Gangmerke mileage log and 2 miles toward the walk to Bergen.
- The total miles (4100) is for the whole lodge, so everyone participating need only do the best they can and we will add up everyone’s miles and apply them to the total.
